Alternatively I could just buyt two more 4gb sticks bringing it up to 16GB but I don't know if this is better or worse than having the two 8gb. Motherboard is ASUS Z97-P, and the Ram installed currently is DDR3 1600 single/dual channel. Just worried about the buying Ram for the first time and dont wanna screw anything up!
Yes, combining 8GB and 16GB of RAM together is possible. However, this can cause a slight decrease in performance. In order to use two different-sized RAM together you need to make sure the motherboard is compatible and they have the same clock speeds. 3. Theoretically it's fine. Just make sure it has the same configuration (i.e. number of pins, size/design). This is very important for laptops. Generally the faster RAM will be automatically 'underclocked' to achieve effectively the same speeds. You could attempt to overclock the slower RAM, but I honestly can't see there being much of an

You could add another 8 gig module to have 16 gigs. 32 gigs (2 x 16 gig modules) is also possible. However, very few computer users need 16 gigs let alone 32 gigs. You might notice a speed improvement with 16 gigs since
