A helicopter has 4 major control axis, an airplane has 4. Elite is a 6 degrees of freedom game, thus the best input model is something that gives you 6 full axis, like dual sticks. Even NASA when building manual docking controls for the space shuttle used a dual stick (with twist) system. 2. Bucklar.
It's hard to achieve this level of control with any other kind of setup (hotas with a mini stick on the throttle would give you the same amount of analog inputs, but probably would be a bit less precise). ozx23. The T16000m are a good cheap stick. Only issue is the twist, but there's good videos on how to fix it.
I also use HOSAS (hand on stick and stick) and have my controls set up in a similar fashion to yours. Right stick is pitch, roll and yaw. Left stick for lateral and vertical thrust. Thrust forward and back are on the left stick twist axes for fine manipulation but honestly I just have 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 throttle bound to buttons.
LoK. i believe helicopters uses dual sticks rather than HOTAS. i think fighter jets uses HOTAS because they cant do literal movement so dual sticks are pointless. It not only that, with thrust vectoring lateral movement becomes more of a thing in jets as well, but fly by wire seems to take care of a lot of that. #11.

(Or: "How I learned to stop worrying and love Elite's keybinding menu") Dual Joystick Setup Map Everyone is all "HOTAS this" and "HOTAS that," but I wanted to go a slightly different way with my control scheme in Elite: Dangerous dual joysticks!
Go to the manual and look for āConfigure axes responseā and it will explain what you need to know. Play around with it and you will soon start to understand how it works. Do on axis only until you get the hang of it and then add in the rest until you get them where you want them.
Don't need Target for Elite, in fact it's even caused problems for me in the past. The game already lets you set everything, including multiple devices, simultaneous key presses, shift keys etc. If you've already got it set up through Target, then you'll probably want to leave it as is. If you're new to the game though and just setting up your
